Ibd Sufferers: You Can End the Struggle

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis eight years ago, and I was told that I would likely struggle with flare-ups for the rest of my life. I heard stories of other sufferers who had to eventually have their colons removed, and I became determined to not become part of this statistic. I was prescribed a daily medication that helps manage my condition, and although I don't like taking pills, I realize I need it to keep my colon healthy. I still experienced flares, so I began an elimination diet recommended by my doctor and found my "trigger" foods. I have now been flare-free for two years! I created this blog to help remind others with IBD that there is hope. You can end the constant struggle if you work with your doctor to try different methods of controlling your disease.

Why Visiting a Doctor's Office is Important

Getting ill is one of the unfortunate parts of being human, and various health conditions are naturally expected to develop as the human body gets older. With the right medical care, most health conditions can be treated before they become worse or may be prevented altogether. The mistake that many people make is that they avoid making a doctor's appointment until there is a health concern. It is wise to find a doctor's office to regularly visit for checkups so you can stay on top of what is going on with your body. There are multiple services that a doctor can provide throughout your life that are beneficial for your overall health.

Allow a Physician to Get to Know Your Health

Whether you are ill or not, making an occasional doctor's appointment is a good way to find a personal care provider for your health needs. You will not only build trust with a physician but they will get to know your health to better care for your needs. For example, by going to the same physician on a regular basis, they will automatically know how your health has been in past visits. The reason is that medical records will be readily accessible, and they will also begin to remember various aspects of your health. Health problems can be treated faster and more precisely when a doctor is accustomed to treating a patient on a regular basis.

Become Aware of Your Health Risks

It is important to make occasional doctor's appointments because you will find out if you are at risk for various health conditions. Each time that you show up for a checkup, your vitals will be checked so the doctor will know if anything is out of the ordinary. For example, your blood pressure will be checked because it will let the doctor know if you are at risk for heart disease. They can begin treating the high blood pressure before heart disease or other serious conditions develop that can put your life at risk. Diabetes, cancer, and arthritis are a few of the other health conditions that you will know if you are at risk of developing.

Know Who to Contact in an Emergency

Although you can get treated at the hospital when there is an emergency health situation, it is wise to have a primary care provider (PCP) to call. The reason is so the hospital staff can call your PCP and provide the best treatment possible for your situation. Your PCP can visit you at the hospital and let the hospital staff know about any conditions you have been receiving treatment for at their clinic.
